Farm Hand Inherits Farm

November 6th, 2007 · No Comments

David Thorner, a British citizen that labored on his cousin’s farm for 25 years only receiving room and board and the promise that one day the whole thing would be his, finally got his farm. It is valued at 2.3 million pounds (roughly $4.6 million) and is all his.

When Thorner’s cousin died without a written will, the existing laws mandated that the farm be passed onto the cousin’s children. Thorner, however, decided to take his case to court in order to ensure that the wishes and expectations of Pete Thorner, David Thorner’s cousin, were carried out.

Pete Thorner had had a will leaving everything to David Thorner that was signed in 1997 but he then wanted to amend the will in some other area and never returned the signed new will to his solicitors. Due to this he died intestate. The family then had to convince the courts that Pete Thorner really did want to give everything to David. The farm he inherited after a two-year court battle is roughly 400 acres.
